The Beginning
In late 2013 James and Aubrey were introduced to each other through a mutual friend who was attempting to play cupid. They were both attending California State University, Stanislaus. Phone numbers were exchanged and they spent many weeks texting back and forth getting to know each other and one night soon after, Aubrey ditched her night class to hang out with James in the college newspaper office where he worked part time.
After spending a few hours hanging out and listening to music sparks started to fly and they started to spend time together nearly every day.
On December 2, 2013 James asked Aubrey to be his girlfriend. She readily accepted the offer.
Split Apart
In December 2015, James graduated from CSU Stanislaus, moved back to Pleasanton, and started a new Software Engineering job in San Francisco. Aubrey still had one more semester to complete. Over the next six months, Aubrey would drive from Los Banos to Pleasanton to spend the weekend together.
Coming Back Together
While Aubrey and James were apart they made plans to move to San Francisco after Aubrey’s graduation, where she would attend San Francisco State University’s Teaching Credential Program. James’ step-brother Jeff and his wife Sharon suggested they rent out their in-law unit.
Over the next few months they would spend the weekends in San Francisco helping make the in-law move-in ready. With the help of James’ parents they were able to renovate the space into what would become their home.
In late July 2015 they moved to San Francisco to start their lives together.
The Engagement
During Aubrey’s spring break they made plans to visit family and friends Easter weekend. James planned to take off Friday, April 14th so they could enjoy a three day weekend together. On the morning of April 13th, they went to their favorite coffee shop, Andytown, before James would have to leave for work, but he surprised her by telling her he had taken the day off and he had bought tickets to the DeYoung museum.
They went to the DeYoung museum and saw the Summer of Love special exhibit. Afterwards they made their way up to the observation tower. While looking out onto the beautiful panoramic views of San Francisco, James got down on one knee and asked Aubrey to spend the rest of their lives together.
Aubrey said YES!!
